Abstract

This study analyzes a paratextual lexicographic component: the prologue. This analysis is carried out in five differential monolingual dictionaries published in Chile between 1875 and 1928. The purpose of this study is to show how this type of dictionary is articulated as a linguistic tool. A linguistic tool is a key element of the standard process, especially in the encoded dynamics. Similarly, the analysis shows how these dictionaries are articulated as glotopolitic acts, to take account of linguistic ideas such as the treatment of a national language, prestigious or exemplary language, variant language and differentiability, among others.
