Abstract

In Chile, the habitational action presents solutions of lowcost housings that respond only to quantitative factors, because of the need to reduce the habitational deficit in the country, leaving in a second plane the qualitative factors that give the habitability and comfort conditions inside the housings. Among the qualitative factors were framed aspects as thermic insolation, ventilation, control of interior humidity and steam, sunning, to mention something, which affect the life quality of the dwellers. In this context was stated the present investigation whose main goal was to determine the factors that affect the welfare of the people inside the low-cost housings, evaluating the condensation phenomenon. To achieve the goals of the investigation, it was made in first instance a theoretical study of the problem and of the condensation phenomenon that is produced in the low-cost housings, then it was made an evaluation of the behavior of the housings by measures on the ground and application of surveys to the habitants. Subsequently, the data were analyzed, the conclusions were obtained and the action mechanisms were proposed. The investigation allowed to conclude that the condensation phenomenon is a recurrent problem in the low-cost housings, and that the main causes are the high relative humidity of the interior ambient air, due to the habitual manipulations of the users, and the low surface temperatures of the walls and ceilings in relation to the temperature of the interior air.
