Publication ethics and Malpractice statement

Cuadernos de Historia receives for publication original research articles on History, Archeology, Anthropology and other disciplines of the Social Sciences and Humanities, taking into account their historical perspective and ensuring that they contribute to encouraging debate on historical methods and academic exchange at the highest levels of quality and ethics. These principles are also applied to all stages of the receiving, evaluating and editing process. The journal publishes little-known sources that are relevant to research, in addition to reviews of books published within the two years prior to submission to the editorial team. The author will not incur costs for the publication.

Liabilities of the editors

Selection of articles: Papers must be sent to the editorial staff of Cuadernos de Historia, to the email c_histor@uchile.cl, in accordance with the ethical and editorial standards established below. Only those that meet the formal requirements will be submittted to peer review, once the editorial team is satisfied that the manuscript meets the necessary high standards of quality and ethics. Plagiarism and other types of unethical behavior will be penalized.

Confidentiality and transparency regulation: The director and members of the editorial team are prohibited from revealing their opinions on manuscripts and from disclosing or discussing their content with third parties.

Nor may they use the material contained in articles rejected for publication in their own research, unless they have the written consent of the author (s).

Non-discrimination regulation: The selection of articles will be free of discrimination on the grounds of race, gender, sexual orientation, social condition, ethnic origin, nationality, political ideology or religious belief of the author or authors.

Liabilities of the evaluators

Selection and confidentiality regulation: The evaluation will be submitted to double-blind arbitration by at least two people, designated by the journal's editorial staff, who belong to institutions other than those of the author and who have no type of conflict of interests with the author.

The evaluators will submit their reports within a maximum period of two months. In the case of discrepancy between them, arbitration will be carried out by a third evaluator. Only the author will be informed by the editorial staff of the results of said evaluations.

Objectivity regulation: In the event that the evaluators suggest changes based on reasonable arguments and criticism, including sources relevant to the topic that have not been considered, the author (s) will have to review their manuscript following the evaluators' suggestions.

Publishing deadline regulation: Only when the corresponding modifications have been made by the author(s), will the editorial team notify them of the publication date, reserving the right to include the article in the issue of the journal considered most convenient in order to be able to carry out necessary, formal modifications to the original text. The dates of receipt and acceptance for publication will be indicated in the article.

Intellectual commitment regulation: The author (s) are responsible for the content and opinions expressed in the text and which do not necessarily represent those of the editors.

Liabilities of the author (s)

Originality regulation: The author (s) are responsible for presenting an original manuscript in which they endeavor to verify the hypotheses of the work, clearly indicating the results and details of the sources or references used, so that they can be available to other researchers. The author (s) certify that the material is original and has not been sent simultaneously to another media.

Authorship regulation: The author (s) will include as a footnote their highest academic degree, institutional affiliation, city ​​and country of residence, ORCID ID, and their email address.

The main author, in cases of collective works, will guarantee that all those who contributed significantly to the publication appear as co-authors and that they have reviewed and approved both the final version of the article and its presentation for publication. They will also ensure that it is their own work and that it has not been plagiarized.

Recognition and sanction of unethical conduct: In the event of a breach of an ethical norm, the editorial team will inform the academic community by disclosing the letter addressed to the author (s) which condemns their action. Sanctions include the definitive exclusion from being able to submit manuscripts to Cuadernos de Historia.

Transparency regulation: Any type of research funding must be included as a footnote, with an asterisk (*) placed at the end of the title of the article.

Policy for Recognizing Unethical Conduct and Sanction

In the event of discovering a violation of an ethical standard, the editorial team will inform the individual involved through a letter condemning the action and imposing a sanction. The sanction may include a permanent disqualification from submitting a manuscript to Cuadernos de Historia.

Disclaimer

The contents, opinions, or arguments expressed in the published articles, reviews, or documents are the sole responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the journal. Reviewers are free to suggest partial modifications to the content without affecting the essence of the authors' arguments. After the acceptance and publication of the articles, Cuadernos de Historia is free to reproduce the content in whole or in part for dissemination purposes, duly crediting the authors.

Retractions and Claims

Cuadernos de Historia allows authors to submit corrections or clarifications regarding their published articles. Depending on the magnitude of the change (according to the editorial team's criteria), the article will be modified directly, or an addendum will be added.

Cuadernos de Historia accepts retraction requests from authors of published articles, subject to the editorial team's consideration. If the retraction is accepted, the article will be removed from the journal's platforms, and a note explaining the situation will be posted in the news section.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Cuadernos de Historia allows the use of generative AI (generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence technology that produces various forms of content such as text, images, audio, and synthetic data. Examples include ChatGPT, NovelAI, Jasper AI, Rytr AI, DALL-E) and AI-assisted technologies solely in the process of drafting the article, review, or document, with the sole purpose of improving the language and readability of the work. The use of any generative AI must be properly indicated in the work's information with an asterisk (*) in a footnote. Furthermore, if the editorial team suspects that someone has violated our AI policies, they will be notified by a letter condemning the procedure and imposing a sanction. The sanction may include a permanent disqualification from submitting a manuscript to Cuadernos de Historia.
