Presented in a preliminary and condensed format at the First Coloquim on Performing Arts and Theater Studies, this article
preliminarily presents the coloquial notion of función as an object of study for the theatrology in the chilean university. By briefly
approaching the concept of función, as well as unfolding a group of his characteristics (as experiencial evento, interaction in his
emergence of its appearance, variability-simultaneity and his effects) and discussing its situated nature in ower context, the article takes
on meaning as a apology with the aim of contributing to the posible formation of a Theater Studies field in Chile.
